ELECTIVE AFFINITIES

The tale, based on Goethe's famous novel and set in the Napoleonic period, of an aristocratic couple who fall in love, she with a friend of her husband's, and he with this friend's young god-daughter. They try in vain to fight the irresistible affinity which draws them together. Due to the force of circumstances and convention their feelings remain unexpressed for too long, and this leads to tragic consequences.
