San Nicolas, a small town in the countryside, is where a story of love, friendship and betrayal between two beautiful girls takes place: As children, Antonia and Sara lived very different lives, the only thing they had in common was their friendship. Antonia has a strong, rebellious nature and although not wealthy, she is rich with happiness. In contrast, Sara has a privileged life among silk and gold, however, she is riddled with sadness, and childhood memories filled with illness and solitude. Although very different from one another, fate brings them together and with their strong bond they will be friends forever, until an unexpected love comes their way.
After 21 years, Antonia remains in San Nicolas, where she has been awaiting Sara's return from a Swiss boarding school. Sara's aunt, Agueda, was the one responsible for the sending her away to boarding school and continues to do everything in her power to keep Sara away from La Pureza, the families' ranch and cooking oil company, and more importantly, Antonia. On the day of Sara's return, Antonia meets David; he's an attractive and magnetic man who works at the country's most important cooking oil factory. It's love at first sight. Little do either of them know that on this same day, Sara falls madly in love with David, and becomes the driving force that separates the two friends.
David loving Antonia for how good she makes him feel. He loves Sara, however, for her passion and social status. David, exhausted from fighting the temptation to have both women, makes his decision to be with Antonia. However, his work takes him to the city and their relationship falls apart as Sara's implements her deceptive plan, advised by her Aunt Agueda. Antonia, only knowing that the love of her life is with someone else in the city, she takes the advice of Sara and turns to Juan Pablo, a great friend since childhood, and accepts to be his girlfriend.
What Antonia, Sara and David ignore, and may not see, is Agueda. She is responsible for the recent events and broken hearts. Although her hands appear soft, delicate and innocent, she weaves dark traps with them for those who oppose her. Her power comes from the secret she holds. Agueda is the only person alive who knows that Benjamin, Humberto's brother and owner of La Pureza is also Antonina's biological father. Agueda's hatred stems from the fact that Benjamin, the only man she has ever loved, fathered both Sara and Antonia.
Agueda's evil plot continues when the town's political tyrant, Ramon, who wants Antonia for his own, attacks her, as suggested by Agueda, and takes her by force. Antonia fights back, hitting Ramon. Believing that she has killed Ramon, Antonia flees to the city in search of David. When they meet, David confirms his true love for Antonia. David's infidelity is torturing him, once again, he must choose between his two loves, until Antonia discovers that the woman who stole David away is Sara, her best friend.
Angered and heartbroken by her discovery of her best friend's betrayal, Antonina returns home to San Nicolas and moves on with her life. Antonia finds hope despite the bitterness that surrounds her, and more so, when she receives her grandfather's inheritance. Antonia's newly found wealth and confidence gives her the strength. As a natural born visionary, Antonia wisely invests the money in cooking oil production, grows soybeans and raises cattle, leading her family and San Nicolas down a path to productivity and abundance.
David and Sara return to San Nicolas to manage her inheritance and take control of La Pureza. It is then, when Sara learns of Antonia's rights to land and company shares, because Antonia is her half-sister.
The former best friends are now sworn enemies and sisters. Sara refuses to share her fortune, the company, and especially David. The now empowered Antonia, however, has other plans and is ready to fight for what is rightfully hers, including David, the love of her live. As always, next to her will be Juan Pablo, a man willing to defeat David and conquer Antonia's love.
