Elegant and pretty Mariana Montesinos is, beyond any doubt, a stylish horsewoman. Her remarkable skills at handling horses have made her a champion. Ricardo Robles, the handsome economist and consultant of several leading companies, handles his life with charm. Love takes both by surprise and sweeps them off their feet. Thanks to Mariana, Ricardo is so happy that he forgets the brutal murder of his father:and his revenge.
As a little boy, Ricardo witnessed the moment that his father was killed by Samuel Montesinos. The same night Ricardo's world crashed down and his father's murder, Samuel, abused Liliana Acosta, a beautiful woman that he was obsessed with.
Lorenza Acosta, Liliana's ambitious and whimsical sister, knows that Samuel has committed two crimes in less than a day. Her reaction is to force Samuel to marry her or she will go to the police to accuse him. Right after the wedding Samuel flees the country. Lorenza uses this to her advantage and puts her sister Liliana in a mental hospital. Nine months later after Samuel's attack, Liliana gives birth to Mariana. Afraid of losing Samuel, Lorenza comes up with a plan. She shows up at the mental hospital, but this time, it's to take the baby girl away. Lorenza makes her husband believe that Mariana is their daughter.
Mariana has turned out to be a self-assured young woman. For Samuel, Mariana is the light of his life, his most prized treasure. He simply dotes on her. Unaware of Samuel's real personality and crimes, Mariana adores and respects him back.
Everything changes the second Ricardo learns that Mariana is, in fact, the daughter of his enemy. He starts seeing her as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to avenge the death of his father. From this moment on, Ricardo will show her his other face; the face of an arrogant, proud and ruthless man. As a result, Mariana decides to end the relationship. Ricardo and Mariana are caught up between love and hatred. Each fights hard to conceal their true feelings. Ricardo leads Samuel to bankruptcy, but he is not done yet, nor is he satisfied. The clever young man uses Samuel's crimes and felonies to threaten him. Samuel is between the devil and the deep blue sea; he will go to prison if his daughter Mariana does not marry Ricardo. In the middle of his despair, Samuel convinces her to do so.
Their marriage becomes a battlefield where the wills of Mariana and Ricardo clash. However, the passionate and deep love they feel becomes more evident with every passing day. They are to stubborn and way too proud to surrender to love.
Mariana eventually forgives Samuel because, after all, he raised her with love and care. Unfortunately, Ricardo and Mariana dash into a bitter trap created by Lorenza. Just to hurt both, Lorenza makes them believe that they are brother and sister.
Finally, Liliana, Mariana's mother, is able to escape from the mental hospital. She rushes to her daughter's side and explaines everything. Liliana affirms that she never was intimate with Ricardo's father, therefore Samuel is Mariana's biological father.
Aware of the pain her daughter and Ricardo are experiencing; Liliana decides to help in their reconciliation. First she takes matters to her own hands and confronts Samuel and Lorenza. The argument reaches a boiling point when Liliana points out that she could press charges against them. The pressure is too much for Samuel and he has a stroke. Lorenza uses the confusion to escape.
Will Mariana and Ricardo forgive, forget and give their love a chance?
