NIGHT SUN

Baron Sergio Giuramondo, a member of the court of Charles III of Naples, is destined for an illustrious marriage and a brilliant career. But on the eve of his wedding he discovers that his fiance was the King's mistress. Driven by pride and a yearning for the Absolute, Sergio becomes a monk, then a hermit on Mount Petra. Word of his sanctity spreads far and wide, bringing pilgrims who are seeking miracles. One of these is Mathilda, a mentally disturbed girl who shatters Sergio;s resistance. He flees in despair, and later attempts suicide. But his will to live proves stronger, and he returns to the land of his childhood. There, he finds something other than he left behind.
