Pobre Diabla is the passionate story of a young couple who discover a love so pure, it transcends social standings but a grim and horrific secret from the past threatens to destroy their only chance of happiness.
From the moment they set eyes on each other, Daniela Montenegro and Santiago Rodriguez, fell in love. She, a beautiful, rebellious and fierce woman, raised in the depth of poverty. Him, a millionaire?s son with a brilliant future as a businessman. As life often as it, people's fortunes or calamities are decided by circumstances. And so, unknown to Daniela and Santiago, their love would fall victim to the tragic shadow of a past which has loomed over them all their lives as Horacio, Santiago?s father, committed a horrifying crime that twenty years ago sealed their fate. It was then, crazed by the rejection of the woman he loved, Horacio murdered Daniela, the wife of his friend and partner, Diego Montenegro. Fearing jail and seeking to protect his family, Horacio manipulated the evidence to incriminate Diego, who eventually would be found guilty of murder and sentenced to twenty five years behind bars. But unbeknownst to Horacio, the nanny of Diego and Daniela?s daughter, Micaela, witness the events of that tragic day and seeking help, ran out with the child in her arms. Unfortunately for the child as losing her parents wasn?t enough, tragedy struck again when Micaela suffered a stroke leaving her speechless and unable to move, forcing her to keep the terrible truth to herself. Otilia, an ambitious and selfish trash collector, takes the child in, expecting some day to benefit for saving her life.
But meanwhile. Otilia takes advantage of Daniela, forcing her to beg for money and sell bubble gum and newspapers in the mean streets of the barrio. As time goes by, the poor child grows up amongst dumpsters and trash and people of questionable intentions.
When Daniela turns twenty, she meets Santiago and they immediately fall in love. But Santiago?s family is against their relationship due to their differences in social status and promise to never accept the beautiful girl.
On the other hand, Horacio must attend pressing matters - Diego is about to be release from jail and has promised to seek revenge against the man who unjustly incarcerate him. Consequently, Horacio hires an attorney which sole purpose is to keep his adversary locked up or if necessary, killed. But Diego isn?t a man alone; Isidro, his uncle, has stood by his side all these years and is not about to abandon him. After years of searching, Isidro is about to discover the whereabouts of Diego?s daughter when he dies under suspicious circumstances.
At the same time, Daniela is also surrounded by evil: consumed by greed, Otilia has sold her as a piece of furniture to Carmelo, a repulsive and heartless man who has desired the young girl since she was a child. Daniela continues to sweetly watch over MIcaela, unaware of the secret that gives her former nanny the strength to wait patiently for a miracle and for the day that she will be able to reveal Daniela?s true identity to the world.
'Sweet Poor Devil' is the story of Daniela and Santiago, a young couple born to be together despite their social differences but must overcome a past so cruel and destructive to keep their love alive.
